[Acctivate](https://hub.acctivate.com/articles/installation?hsLang=en#acctivate) May 14, 2025 # Install Acctivate using a hosted database server ## When installing Acctivate on your workstations, you'll need to enter the database server, then enter in the SQL Server credentials when prompted. Acctivate can be downloaded from [acctivate.com/downloads](http://acctivate.com/downloads).  When installing Acctivate connected to a hosted server, you should always start by installing the most recent update, which includes new features, performance improvements and bug fixes. Once you've downloaded Acctivate, browse to your downloads folder and double-click to start the installation. ![](https://hub.acctivate.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Start%20installation-png.png?width=670&height=469&name=Start%20installation-png.png) Click \[Next\] to begin the workstation install. To install Acctivate on your workstation in which Acctivate will be pointed to a hosted SQL database server, you need to start by entering in the SQL Server name: ![Installation show advanced options](https://hub.acctivate.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Installation%20show%20advanced%20options.png?width=670&height=469&name=Installation%20show%20advanced%20options.png) Next, you'll enter in the supplied Acctivate Server connection that has been supplied to you.  You can also enter in the Database Prefix if this has been provided to you as well. ![Installation enter connection info](https://hub.acctivate.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Installation%20enter%20connection%20info.png?width=670&height=469&name=Installation%20enter%20connection%20info.png) Once you click \[Next\], you'll be prompted to enter in the SQL username and password.  Enter these credentials that were supplied as well. ![](https://hub.acctivate.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Acctivate%20server%20connection-png.png?width=670&height=469&name=Acctivate%20server%20connection-png.png) Click \[Next\] to verify the connection information.![](https://hub.acctivate.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Complete%20installation-png.png?width=670&height=469&name=Complete%20installation-png.png) Click \[Install\] to start the installation on the workstation.
