Considerations for multi-level Assembly products

Using Inventory Manager and the Create Assemblies window for multi-level assemblies.

Creating an assembly session will create demand for components used in the assembly. It's suggested that Inventory Assembly sessions be created before creating reorders.

For multi-level assembly products (assemblies with components that are assemblies), you may need to make several passes from the Inventory Manager and Create Assemblies process.

For example, select all the products in the Build button of the Inventory Manager and load them into the Create Assemblies window, then create the Assembly session. Then, return to the Inventory manager and see if any new products appear in the Build button. These would be assembly products which are components used in the assembly session you just created. Repeat this process as many times as necessary.

Multi-level Assembly example:

Product "Executive Table" has Components "Paint" and "Work Table", Work Table being it's own sub Assembly with Components "Table Leg" and "Table Top". To Assembly 1x Executive Table, it will require 1x Paint, 1x Work Table, 4x Table Leg, and 1x Table Top. Creating an assembly session will create the demand for any sub Assemblies.

  • Assembly: Executive Table
    • Component: Paint
    • Sub Assembly Component: Work Table
      • Component: Table Leg
      • Component: Table Top

The Build button in the Inventory Manager window is suggesting to build Executive Table because it's Out of Stock and on an open Sales Order. Sub Assembly component Table Top is not listed on the Inventory Manager Build button because there is not currently any demand.

Assembly Session for Executive Table:

After creating or posting the Assembly Session, Return to the Inventory manager and see if any new Assembly products appear in the Build button. These would be assembly products which are components used in the assembly session you just created. In this example, the Executive Table Assembly Session created the demand for sub Assembly Work Table and it will now appear on the Build button in Inventory Manager.
