FAQs
Do I need Windows Server for Acctivate?
Windows Server Operating Systems are supported but are not a requirement for Acctivate Server installations. Please refer to our System Requirements page for a full list of supported OSs for both Servers and Workstations.
Our system requirements page can be found here.
Windows Desktop Operating Systems like Windows 11 Pro only supports 20 client connections, while Windows Server Operating Systems can support a significantly larger amount of connections, depending on the CAL (Client Access License) count. If you're going to use a Workgroup in Windows 11 Pro, but may require more than 20 client connections, it's likely best you consider a Windows Server Operating System instead.
Another commonly asked question is if Acctivate requires a Domain or Workgroup setup. The short answer is that Acctivate supports both options. However, it's strongly recommended that you consult with your Network Administrator or an IT Professional to make these decisions. There are several factors to be reviewed in order to know if a Domain or Workgroup setup is best for you.
Domain accounts are used by organizations with large networks that have users with different levels of privileges and access rights where control is centralized by a domain controller.
Workgroup accounts are intended for small networks on a single LAN or subnet and offer its users greater control over their computer.
