How can I test/verify my printed barcodes?

It is important to test and verify your bar codes to ensure scannability. Malformed and poor quality bar codes cost your business time and money.

Acctivate follows the GS1 bar code standards.   Occasionally you may find that a bar code does not scan correctly. While scanning into a text editor is usually helpful sometimes there could be hidden commands not visible .

A useful and free bar code troubleshooting tool from IDAutomation to help decode hidden commands.  This tool reveals hidden, non-printable ASCII characters and commands from keyboard emulation devices, such as USB Bar code Scanners.  This tool is another option to see how a bar code is being read in addition to scanning the bar code into a notepad document.

GS1 also have some useful free bar code verification tools, designed to reveal the HRI (Human Readable Interpretation) from multiple GS1 fixed length element strings (More testing and verification information found here)
