Resolving "The license path in the database does not match the Acctivate.exe config data path."

If you receive error "The license path in the database [PATH] does not match the Acctivae.exe config data path [PATH]" or you are receiving error "Trial expired" on workstations, check out this error.

If when opening Acctivate on a workstation, you receive an error like below:

"The license path in the database \\Server\AcctivateData does not match the Acctivate.exe.config data path \\Server\AcctivateData"

or an error like so:

image (1)-3

"Acctivate trial period has expired."

This means that the workstation has a different Acctivate data path than Acctivate is license too. This means that your workstation is not pointing to the proper path for licensing, resulting in an inability to use Acctivate.

Acctivate is licensed by storing your server's Acctivate data path within the database, and then using that to license the software. All workstations must point to this data path within their config file located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Acctivate. The path can be by IP address, mapped drive, or the normal UNC, but the path must result in the path pointing to the same spot.

For example:

If your server is named "AcctivateServer" and has an IP address of, and the server's AcctivateDataPath is \\AcctivateServer\AcctivateData, then the Acctivate data path on the workstations could be any of the following:

  • \\AcctivateServer\AcctivateData
  • \\\AcctivateData
  • X:\
    • This assumes that X is a mapped drive to the AcctivateData directory on the server.

All of these paths point to the same place which is \\AcctivateServer\AcctivateData so all of them are acceptable.

Fixing the error:

To fix this, you will need to know the Acctivate server data path. By default this is \\ServerName\AcctivateData (you will need Admin permissions):

  1. On the workstation, navigate to the Acctivate directory. By default, this is C:\Program Files (x86)\Acctivate
  2. Open the "Acctivate.exe" CONFIG file (this is located right under the Acctivate.exe. The config file will either have a notepad icon or the default white paper icon.)
  3. If Windows asks how to open it, select "Notepad."
  4. In the config file, you should see a section like this:
    1. config-1
  5. Change the value to be what your server's AcctivateDataPath should be. Please consult your IT if you need assistance with this. This can be:
    1. \\ServerName\AcctivateData
    2. \\IPAddress\AcctivateData
    3. Mapped Drive path
  6. Save the file.
    1. Windows may forbid you from saving the file. If that happens, there's a workaround:
      1. Save the config file to the Desktop.
      2. Delete the existing Config file in the directory.
      3. Copy the config file from the Desktop into the Acctivate directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Acctivate)

At this point, you should be able to login to Acctivate without any error. You will need to ensure this is done on every workstation. If you have a large amount of workstations, you may make a copy of the config file from a working workstation and then paste it in the non-working workstations.
