How does Packaging Manager calculate and display the total shipment weight in Acctivate?

Packaging Manager displays total shipment and carton weights based on the product weights defined on each item’s Product Spec tab.

Acctivate’s Packaging Manager automatically calculates and displays the total weight of each carton and the overall shipment when weights are defined for the products included on the related sales orders.

If no product weights are set, the shipment weight will display as zero.

How Packaging Manager Calculates Shipment Weight

  • Packaging Manager totals the weights of all products included in the shipment based on the quantities packed.

  • The system also includes the carton weight, if specified, to determine the total shipment weight.

  • The total weight updates automatically as items are packed into cartons.

Setting Product Weights for Accurate Totals

To ensure Packaging Manager calculates the correct shipment and carton weight, you must define product weights in each item’s Product Specification (Spec) tab.

Follow these steps:

  1. Open the product in Product Information

    • Go to Inventory → Product Information.

    • Search for and select the product.

  2. Open the Specs tab

    • Click the Specs tab to view product specifications.

  3. Enter the product weight

    • In the Weight field, enter the weight for the product’s stocking unit (e.g., “Each,” “Case,” etc.).

    • Make sure to use the correct weight unit of measure (typically pounds).

  4. Set weight for alternate units of measure (if applicable)

    • If you sell or package the product in additional units (such as “Box,” “Case,” or “Pallet”), select the Packaging unit of measure and enter the weight for that UOM as well.

    • This ensures Packaging Manager uses the correct weight when products are packed in alternate quantities.

  5. Save the product

    • Click Save to store your changes.

Viewing Total Shipment and Carton Weight

Once product weights are set:

  1. Open Packaging Manager for a shipment.

  2. As items are packed, the Carton Weight and Total Shipment Weight fields will automatically update to reflect the total of all packed items plus any carton tare weights.

  3. These totals can also be used for shipping label generation or integration with carrier systems.

Expected Result

Packaging Manager displays accurate carton and total shipment weights based on the defined product weights, ensuring accurate shipping documentation and carrier charges.

Actual Result (Before Fix)

If product weights are not set, Packaging Manager displays a total shipment weight of 0, and carrier integrations may show incorrect or missing weights.

Additional Notes

  • Product weight settings apply to all future shipments once updated.

  • You can verify the total shipment weight in the Packaging Manager window before completing the shipment.

  • If carton tare weights are used, make sure they are configured for each carton type in Configuration Management → Inventory → Packaging.
