Why am I getting an "ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED"/"Name Resolution Failure" on Acctivate mobile for Android?

Sometimes when navigating to the webservice URL on an android device or attempting to test connection in the Acctivate application, you may be greeted with an error. This article explains how to get around it.

ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED as well as "Name Resolution Failure" means that your web browser or the Android app were unable to find the IP address that matches the website domain address. Essentially, your device is unable to find the Acctivate webservice.

There are a few different ways you can fix this error:

  1. Ensure that you're on the same network as your server. Mobile devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network as the server, or must be accessing the network via VPN.
  2. Try replacing the ServerName in the webservice URL to be the server IP address. You can find this address on the server computer by opening "Command Prompt" and typing in "Ipconfig." You're looking for the "IPV4" address.
    1. Your URL would look like this: http://ServerIP/AcctHandHeld

Usually option two will fix the error, but if it does not, reach out to support.
